Sony revealed today on Twitter that, as of January 28, 2014, servers for SOCOM Confrontation, MAG, and SOCOM 4 will be going offline--for good.

As IGN points out, it is not a complete surprise that Sony has decided to pull the plugs on these three titles. Each generated considerable hype pre-release, quickly burning out after launch and becoming a niche for a smaller audience. Both SOCOM games sold poorly in comparison to their PlayStation 2 predecessors, and MAG seemed to be a thrilling concept on paper that was underwhelming in execution. The large-scale PSN outage, along with the closing of Sony-owned Zipper Interactive over a year ago, did not help these titles reach great heights.
